NYC IRISH STUDIES CONSORTIUM – Lectures and Talks
I have some events both very soon and farther off to let you know about.
One that I wanted to get on your calendars is an event on New Irish
Fiction at Columbia’s Lenfest Center for the Arts on FRIDAY, APRIL
3RD at 4pm. Panelists include COLIN BARRETT, KEVIN BARRY, NICOLE
FLATTERY, MIKE MCCORMACK, BELINDA MCKEON, and SALLY ROONEY. SAM LIPSYTE
and COLM TÓIBÍN will be moderating. It promises to be a fascinating
discussion between some of the most widely acclaimed Irish writers
working today and I hope to see you there in the spring.
Closer at hand are two lectures organized by Lucy McDiarmid at Montclair
State University. On TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3RD GERALDINE HIGGINS will be
giving at talk at 5:30 pm. Dr. Higgins recently curated an exhibition on
Seamus Heaney, which is now on display in Dublin and she will be
speaking on Heaney’s work. Also, at Montclair State, ROY FOSTER will
be giving a talk on DECEMBER 10TH at 5:30 pm about 20th/21st century
Ireland and Yeats’s place in that history. For more information, write
Professor McDiarmid at mcdiarmidL@gmail.com. The seating is limited;
please write ahead to reserve a place.
